Description

AmlaisGrandma! Since Lady Bitchface abandoned her fawn at birth, Lady Esmé here raised Amlais (with the help of a wet-nurse that first year.)

If you have a Royal Guard born before 748NA who needs a momma, drop me a comment! I want Esmé to have a number of sons in the guard, so as long as the genos fit, I'm game!

Pictured here probably in her mid-late 20's. Eventually I'll make a Super Ancient-Looking ref for her, seeing as how she's past 30 now.

Personality:
Esmé is your typical grandma- kind, caring, benevolent, old-fashioned, with just a dash of critical. She's very knowledgeable about herbs and plants, especially as needed to care for minor illnesses and injuries, or the effects of old age. Very old-fashioned and traditional, she is submissive to all stags and ladies of higher rank than herself (though she is quite close to the kingly line.) Esmé can also be a bit concerned with appearances, even though she tries to be nice about it. She places a good amount of stock in personal grooming and carriage, and believes in "playing your part" in society, so to speak. Still, she is benevolent toward commoners and holds guardsmen in high esteem. She also has great reverence for princesses.
Along with the philosophy of the subservient doe, Esmé doesn't believe in the widespread use of magic by does or common folk. Born in an age when Glenmore's magic was much deteriorated, she can green the grass and doesn't care to do much more than that. She does, however, brim with pride whenever one of her sons or grandsons shows magical ability- seeing it as carrying on the noble lineage.

Appearance:

Though in her youth she kept herself more or less trim, Esmé has always been on the chubby side. She has a wide-set frame, though her legs are delicate enough- meaning that now that she's older her knees and hocks give her a bit of trouble. She also has delicate digestion, though you'd never know it to look at her. Still, despite the rolls and wrinkles, Esmé has delicate features and a kind face, lined with many years of laughter. Her coat has grown thin with age and in many places her dark skin and veins can be seen, especially on her face and in her ears. Even past 30 years of age, though, she still takes meticulous care of her abundance of perfect, curly golden locks, which contain neither a twig nor stain. Her horn, which seems to grow in later and fall off earlier these days, is an elegant spiral that fades to a pale point.

History:

Esmé was born the daughter of an aging Prince Ahern (though by that time he would have been a lord, uncle to King Griorgair) and the Lady Élene, who had been in his harem for several years. Though she never knew her grandmother, Princess Melwyn, she and Esmé's mother had been close, and she told her daughter much of the elder doe and the sacred line of Áillte. Esmé was raised a proper royal lady- poised and demure, yet she was a kind soul with love to spare for just about anyone. She was always charitable to the commons, seeing them more as children than anything, and also could be a bit indulgent herself. She always carried herself as a proud representative of the royal line, though she made sure to always defer to the stag present and never raised her voice to one.

However, she carried a certain pride for her mother's lineage as well. Lady Élene was descended of a well-known royal guardsman who, generations back, had risen from common-criminal status to be a heroic soldier who saved the life of his king. In return, he was granted one of the king's own cousins as a harem-doe, and from the two descended many strong and noble guardsman. It was probably out of this reverence and family history that Esmé gravitated toward guardsmen, and ended up bearing the fawns of several, all of whom, being colts, went into the guard themselves. She became somewhat of an expert at raising rambunctious boy-fawns, learning many an herbal remedy for cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Ever the picture of patience Esmé loved each of her sons with all of her heart, and overflowed with pride as each was accepted into hallowed service of the herd.

In her final season, Esmé was claimed by quite a different stag. Lord Anrai was very.... much. But he was a proud and distinguished lord of Glenmore, and Esmé was overjoyed to bear him a golden royal daughter, whom she named Aimé. Raising a young lady was quite a stark contrast to raising energetic colts, and Esmé often found it difficult to rein in her stubborn and impetuous daughter. Ultimately, Aimé had to learn the hard way that high society doesn't take kindly to a doe with a temper, but eventually she seemed to find her way, and was claimed into a fine lord's harem in the rut.

Unfortunately, that fine lord didn't seem to be the only stag with his eye on the voluptuous golden doe, and Aimé birthed a dark, scruffy little monster the following spring, which she promptly disowned and left with her mother, who had retired into the foothills of the Glenmore Mountains, having retreated from the social proceedings of the Glenwood. At a loss, Esmé did her best to raise the filly, which she named Amlais, and the two lived quitely together in the highlands until the young hind was old enough to enter service as a hoofmaiden, and begin a life of her own.
